On North Korea, Donald Trump clings to 'all or nothing' strategy

13 March 2019

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim met in April, May and September previous year and agreed to reduce tensions and deepen cooperation in various areas.

Satellite images analyzed by experts on March 5 showed that North Korea has been restoring facilities at a long-range rocket launch site that it had begun to dismantle past year as part of its disarmament process, reported Efe news agency.

The Sohae Satellite Launching Station features what researchers of Beyond Parallel, a CSIS project, describe as the vertical engine stand partially rebuilt with two construction cranes, several vehicles and supplies laying on the ground in a commercial satellite image taken over Tongchang-ri, North Korea on March 2, 2019.

Last week, South Korea's chief nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon had travelled to Washington to hold discussions pertaining to North Korea, including efforts being made towards denuclearising the Korean peninsula.

Some experts say these suggest North Korea may be assembling a long-range rocket to carry out a banned satellite launch following the breakdown of last month's North Korea-U.S. summit in Hanoi. The Blue House has yet to confirm whether the call happened, . but can we presume that they discussed the latest satellite images that show the regime could be rebuilding its missile launch site?

Elon Musk Tweets Cause Tesla Investors To Sue, SEC Get Angry
Gartner analyst Michael Ramsey called the move "startling" and said it undermines the credibility of Musk and Tesla's management. The price hikes will go into effect in a week, giving potential buyers a chance to place orders before that happens.

"The door remains open" for further negotiations, he said, adding, however, that "the North Koreans have to be fully invested".

Moon explained why North Korea, which has feared United States military action for decades, continues to maintain its strategic assets.

Mr Bolton added: "It's possible that North Korea will go back and rethink the position they came in with and come back to talk to the president about the big deal".

Thompson said it was "incredibly important" that all countries continued to maintain United Nations sanctions on North Korea until it gave up its nuclear weapons. Seoul would find that disheartening, because Moon told Trump on February 28 after the Trump-Kim summit was cut short without a deal that he hopes to meet Trump in person "in the near future" to continue in-depth negotiations on the North Korea issue. "I wonder if North Korea should avoid" such an action, Mr Moon said.

Q5 U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson says that a third summit between Washington and Pyeongyang is likely, . saying that President Trump and Secretary Pompeo remain open to dialogue.

Snyder said North Korea will likely continue to look for ways to bypass sanctions, and turn to Russian Federation and China, which have been willing partners in that effort in the past.

"The election will strikingly manifest the fixed will of our people to firmly trust and uphold to the last Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un despite storm and stress", the ruling party's official daily said yesterday.

"They never seem to get around to it though".

Bolton declined to say whether the United States was aware at the time of the Hanoi summit of any suspect satellite imagery from North Korea.

"My gut feeling is that the USA and North Korea will still have one more attempt around the table under this administration", said Graham.
