Will anti-Semitism divide Democrats? It already has

Trump's comment came a day after, USA lawmakers on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred and bigotry, following an acrimonious debate over a Muslim congresswoman's comments about Israel policy.

The Wisconsin lawmaker said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that the resolution passed in the House that broadly condemned all forms of hate was an effort to "protect" Omar.

"The Democrats have become an anti-Israel party, they've become an anti-Jewish party", Trump said Friday.

McCain said that while she did not have any family members who were Jewish, she did say that both Joe and Hadassah Lieberman, were like family to her and that the horrifying escalation of global anti-Semitism was very frightening to her.

In response, the Democratic party argued over whether Omar should be singled out and what other types of bias should be decried in the text of the House resolution.

Fresh from a bruising fight over comments by her criticized as anti-Semitic, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar jumped back into the frying pan over the weekend, appearing to level harsh criticism at former USA president Barack Obama, then claiming she had been misquoted before seemingly backtracking.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown Won't Run For President
During a tour stop in Las Vegas last month, Brown promised to be "the most pro-union candidate" for president if he ran. Former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg also announced this week that he would not seek the Democratic nomination.

Trump said on Twitter that yesterday's vote in the House on a watered-down antisemitism resolution, which left out all mention of Omar's repeated claims that American Jewish supporters of Israel are guilty of dual loyalties, was a "disgrace".

All 23 votes against the resolution came from Republican representatives, many of whom did so on grounds that the resolution did not mention Omar by name.

"I don't think it watered down the ant-Semitic language at all", she said.

Top Democrats were among the lawmakers who immediately pushed back against Omar's tweet that accused pro-Israel lawmakers of pushing "for allegiance to a foreign country".

She defended the resolution again and insisted it had no intention of "reducing the fight against anti-Semitism". Because Omar has proven she is truly unapologetic for her anti-Semitic tropes, it should also be a no-brainer to remove her from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which she clearly doesn't deserve to be on.

"I do not believe she understood the full weight of her words". As I have often written before, what you say in such sensitive matters can matter less than what people hear.

Republicans openly mocked the all-encompassing resolution, particularly after a last-minute addition of a clause condemning white supremacists continuing "to exploit bigotry and weaponize hate for political gain".

In an interview published Friday with Politico magazine, Omar criticized Obama's policies on immigration and other issues that she said were similar to those employed by the Donald Trump administration.

"The president's own words have fueled the fire of intolerance and targeting of Jews, and Republicans have failed to condemn the president's remarks in the same way that Democrats were quick to rebuke Representative Omar".

"Today is historic on many fronts", they wrote.

She continued: "Our nation is having a hard conversation and we believe this is great progress".

The statement continued, "We are tremendously proud to be part of a body that has put forth a condemnation of all forms of bigotry including anti-Semitism, racism, and white supremacy".
