Santiago Solari in the dark on Real Madrid future

11 March 2019

Jose Mourinho's return to Real Madrid will shatter an already splintered squad with several senior players saying privately they will leave in the summer if he arrives.

Justifiably, there have been heavy speculations over the future of manager Santiago Solari, and reports suggest that Real Madrid's fans might see a familiar face in the dugout again. They began by crashing out of the Copa del Rey thanks to the loss in the semifinals against Barcelona, before the Catalans inflicted another loss on them in the La Liga, knocking them out of the title challenge there as well.

The Daily Mail further added that Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and so on are also "not interested" in playing under Mourinho.

The report added that Sergio Ramos grew exhausted of Mourinho publicly criticizing him and being singled out for poor performances during his first stint at the club.

Current Madrid boss Santiago Solari will be replaced ahead of next season, leading to a number of candidates being discussed.

When asked about meeting with his players, Solari replied: "Things that happen in private should stay there".

"It was a very hard game after the week that we have had - to come here to such a hard stadium, against a team in this situation, and with us having so many injuries", he said.

But now it's clear that the Los Blancos' golden period is over and they need to usher in a new phase and it looks like Florentino Perez has chosen Mourinho as the right man for the job.

"They know that when they have those victories I'm happy for them, and they know too that I'm not happy about what happened at the end of my spell".

Ramos will have one year remaining on his contract when the summer transfer window and has already told Perez he is more than happy to leave the club after almost 14 years in Madrid.
