Ocasio-Cortez Denies Campaign Finance Violation and 'Dark Money' Allegations

10 March 2019

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was reportedly fundraising Thursday off a pro-Israel activist's warning she and two other fiery freshmen Democrats would soon be voted out of office.

"If the PACs and campaigns were required to provide additional information on subvendor payments made by Brand New Congress LLC, it would have done so", he wrote.

The money that flowed to her chief of staff's corporation have subjected the first-term congresswoman to critics' charges of hypocrisy.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and several of her allies were accused this week by a conservative group of improperly masking political spending during the 2018 campaign.

This leads to a fantastic train chase and fight sequence that spotlights LA rapid transit in a rather, well, aggressive manner. On the flip side, Carol's dynamic with her human friend, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), provides the emotional core.

The complaint states that the Policy Center "has found reason to believe [the] Respondents knowingly and willfully violated 2 U.S.C. 434 (b)(5)(A)", a provision of US campaign finance law that requires the treasurer of any registered political committee to report the name and address of anyone who receives more than $200 in campaign-related spending from that committee, along with the dates and objective of that spending.

However, Brand New Congress, LLC just so happened to be operated by Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti.

Federal Election Commission officials said this week that they were barred by agency rules from commenting on any matters pending before the commission.

Republicans have become obsessed with the young legislator from NY and no matter what she says or does, they've come up with all sorts of manufactured outrage, conspiracy theories, and general nonsense about her personally and her politics.

Trump campaign ex-chief Manafort to be sentenced later Thursday
Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to 47 months for tax and bank fraud in federal court Thursday. They say that he has shown no remorse and that he still owes $6 million in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.

The political operation that Chakrabarti helped establish centered on a novel approach: using a new crop of political action committees to help recruit and train hundreds of progressives to run for Congress and make it easier for little-known candidates to mount campaigns. Justice Democrats paid $606,000, Brand New Congress PAC paid $261,000, and the Ocasio-Cortez committee paid around $19,000.

The conservative National Legal and Policy Center argued in a complaint to the Federal Election Commission on Sunday that Ocasio-Cortez and her allies "orchestrated an extensive off-the-books operation". He discussed the strategy in a 2016 MSNBC interview, and the PACs posted explanations about the LLC's role on their websites.

"We live in a society where if you don't have a job, you're left to die", Ocasio-Cortez said.

Although large financial transfers from PACs to LLCs are not necessarily improper, reports Re, the complaint argues that the goal of the "extensive" scheme was seemingly to illegally dodge detailed legal reporting requirements of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, which are created to track campaign expenditures.
