The aircraft's pilot David Ibbotson, however, is still missing and calls for continuing the operation to find him have been made from Emiliano Sala's family.

But the inquest was later adjourned for a pre-inquest review on November 6.

A body discovered from plane wreckage in the English Channel has been identified as 28-year-old Argentinian soccer player Emiliano Sala.

The Piper Malibu N264DB was en route from France to Cardiff, after the Argentine striker made a quick trip back to his former club Nantes two days after his 15 million pounds transfer to Cardiff was announced, the BBC reported.

"The full AAIB investigation into the plane crash is expected to take between six and 12 months, although an interim report is due within a fortnight".

Pilot David Ibbotson is still missing.

The plane carrying Sala from the French city of Nantes to his new English Premier League club Cardiff City disappeared near the British island of Guernsey on January 21.

Home Office pathologist Dr Basil Purdue has given the cause of Sala's death as "head and trunk injuries".

"Mr Sala was identified on the 7th February by means of fingerprint evidence analyses by fingerprint expert Christopher Bradbury", he said.

The appeal for the body's search was initiated by Ibbotson's family members after the authorities stopped the search on January 24, 2019.

SAC has repeatedly refused to publicly name the owner of the plane, but clarified on Monday night that the Air Accidents Investigations Branch has been informed.

A fundraising campaign to restart the search for Mr Ibbotson has already raised more than £150,000 of a £300,000 target.

They have the support of Sala's heartbroken family, too: "Seeing the whole world mobilised to support us in our research has been an infinitely precious help", Sala's family posted online.
