Maroon 5 Thanks Critics After Lackluster Super Bowl Performance

05 February 2019

Adam Levine of Maroon 5 performs during the Pepsi Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Feb. 03, 2019. Judging by the internet's reaction to their performance, and Levine's post-show Instagram note that reads like a sort-of explanation/apology, it was a disaster. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. "We look to have a good time".

Perhaps spurred by Scott's donation, Maroon 5 also announced this week that they would make a $500,000 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America in partnership with Interscope Records and the NFL. All of which, paired with Adam's bold nipple reveal during Maroon 5's SB performance caused fans to take to Twitter to express their outrage over what many deemed a double standard.

What is most odd about Maroon 5's decision to ultimately kick politics aside in favor of the generic "one love" message is that Levine promised that social justice warriors would "be heard" at the final performance in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Atlanta United, Newcastle Agree on Miguel Almiron Transfer
Club-record signing Miguel Almiron will have to wait to make his Newcastle debut as he now does not possess a work permit. Almiron joined Atlanta from Lanus in Argentina two years ago and helped his side to the MLS title last year.

A petition was started asking Maroon 5 to drop out of the show, and the controversy reportedly made it hard to book guest artists. Some performers declined participation in the Super Bowl as a result.

The song itself is extremely fitting for a halftime show - especially considering that SpongeBob and his "band" performed it during halftime of a football game in the episode itself.

I should point out that I've never really been a fan of Super Bowl halftime performances.

Idrissa Gueye hands in transfer request after Everton reject PSG bid
Manager Marco Silva has previously stated there is no money available to buy players unless Everton recoup money in player sales. But speaking at a news conference on Friday, the Toffees boss suggested Senegal worldwide Gueye was never likely to leave.

"No one thought about it more than I did", said Levine.

Who probably should have headlined the halftime show? "In fact, if anything, it's a cop out when you start talking about, 'I'm not a politician, I'm just doing the music.' Most of the musicians who have any kind of consciousness whatsoever understand what's going on here".

The band's announcement that they would perform at this year's Super Bowl was met with controversy, with calls for them to pull out because of the NFL's stance over some players refusing to stand when the United States national anthem is played in protest against the treatment of black people in America. Rihanna also reportedly turned down the opportunity to perform.

Eagles Expected To Pick Up Nick Foles' $20 Million Option
The 29-year-old has the option to "buy back" his free agency from the Eagles for $2 million, which Rapaport says is "likely". Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman both backed Wentz last month as the team's starter.

Noise and controversy surrounded this year's Super Bowl since some have boycotted the NFL over treatment of Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback who protested racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem.
