Super blood wolf moon

21 January 2019

A lunar eclipse will take place in the hours of darkness, and is combined with the moon being closer to the earth than usual, making it a super moon.

Although total lunar eclipses happen, on average, about one to three times per year, after this one there will be a gap of three years until another is visible.

"How gold, orange, or red the Moon appears during a total lunar eclipse depends on how much dust, water, and other particles are in Earth's atmosphere, as well as factors such as temperature and humidity", according to NASA. For starters, why is the lunar eclipse happening now, and why does the moon turn red when our only satellite creeps into the planet's shadow? That is caused by the refraction of light in the Earth's atmosphere, which in this case acts as a prism.

The science of lunar eclipses is easy to understand, once you grasp that the moon's orbit is tilted relative to Earth's orbit around the sun.

But it's also a supermoon, where the moon is at its closest point to Earth. In January, wolves "howled in hunger outside the villages", according to the Farmer's Almanac.

Galaxy S10 benchmark hints at 6GB RAM for the base model
What past rumours have suggested is that the Galaxy M20 will come with 3GB of RAM with either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. We close with new details regarding Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus that should also be proposed in a variant with ceramic back cover.

The moment of greatest eclipse, when it's halfway over, will be at 11:12 p.m.

"You need no instructions because it's big and bright and it's right in front of you!"

It's the only total lunar eclipse of the year.

When understanding of the eclipse phenomenon spread, Christopher Columbus once used his knowledge of a coming lunar eclipse to manipulate a Caribbean tribe into continuing to feed his crew.

Strictly speaking the "blood moon" will not be visible in South Africa regardless of where you are in the country.

Marcelo Bielsa: Leeds have 'observed' all opponents, but nothing 'illegal'
I don't think there is a specific rule that has been broken, I do not know what needs to be done, that's not for me to decide. I can't say this is the right thing to do, but I'm going to try to explain I didn't have bad intentions.

But astronomers and skygazers are particularly interested in observing this phenomenon as it will be the last blood moon of its kind for two years, and is expected to last more than hour.

As for whether we'll be able to see the lunar show in the Okanagan, Wesla English, NowMedia meteorologist, says that partial clearing is expected this afternoon.

You'll be able to see the first hints of the eclipse at about 9:30 PM Eastern Time on Sunday as the moon slides into the penumbra (the Earth's shadow).

A full calendar of Sunday night's events is available on NASA's website.
