She escaped on foot from a home she where was being held in the town of Gordon, about 65 miles from her home.
- Jayme Closs's family was emotional Thursday night after the 13-year-old girl missing since October was found near Gordon, Wisconsin. Closs, abducted on the night her parents were killed, was held captive for three months.
"My legs started to shake".
At the press conference, Baron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald alleged the suspect planned the crime and that "Jayme was the only target", and that Patterson allegedly went to the home for the objective of kidnapping Jayme and had no prior contact with the parents.
Witnesses told USA media that the young girl - her hair matted and wearing oversized shoes - approached a neighbor who was walking her dog, asking for help. "She did not talk about why or how".
"For her to get away and to do this, it's not her character", said Sue Allard.
Jake Patterson is unemployed and has no criminal record in Wisconsin, authorities said.

Murray, who will turn 32 before this summer's Wimbledon, won the event in 2013 and 2016. Having the operation past year was to give it the best possible chance of being better.
"I have a gut feeling she's (Jayme's) still alive", Fitzgerald said at the time.
During the 20 minutes Jayme was in their home, Peter and Kristin Kasinskas said they tried to make her feel more comfortable. "It was like I was seeing a ghost", Mr Kasinskas told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Jayme was nowhere to be found.
"I'm going to hug her. Squeeze her", Naiberg told the Star-Tribune.
Police found her parents James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46, shot dead, and undertook a nationwide search for Jayme, describing her as "endangered", but the trail had gone cold until Thursday.
Police pulled his auto over on Thursday after Closs gave authorities a description of her captor's vehicle.
"She saw this girl screaming 'help me, help me, '" Kasinskas told the station of his neighbor. She said she never saw Patterson on her street or in town, and doesn't remember seeing him since he was in high school.
"He seemed like a quiet kid", she said. She says her husband spoke with them and they didn't have any further problems. I mean everybody telling they were praying for us, praying for us and you know, it's the power of prayer and it worked.

Google Assistant might be pretty much a standard option for Android phones, but Google found another way to extend its reach. You won't need to recite a confirmation number, and Google will even prompt you through the process of checking your bags.
Ms Nutter said she did not want to take Jayme to her nearby home because it was too close to where she had been found, and she did not want them to be alone.
In a phone interview with the newspaper, the unidentified neighbour said that Closs "came up to me and said she wanted help". "She just yelled, 'Please help me!" I don't know where I am.
Jayme appeared to be "very calm", according to Kasinskas.
Police did not know what happened or the motive for the killings, and a murder weapon was not recovered, according to United States media reports at the time. From what she told them, they believed she was there for most of her disappearance. Some tips led officials to recruit 2 000 volunteers for a massive ground search on October 23, but it yielded no clues.
Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, was taken into custody shortly after 13-year-old Jayme Closs sought help from a woman walking her dog in a rural, heavily wooded Wisconsin neighbourhood near the small town of Gordon, about 60 miles north of Barron. She was rescued nine months later.
On Friday, Smart posted on her Instagram account that it was a "miracle" Jayme had been found alive. Fitzgerald said he didn't know whether Patterson owned the home there or whether it was the only location where he had allegedly held the girl. Douglas County Sheriff Thomas Dalbec said Patterson was jailed on kidnapping and homicide charges.
