The hearing came two weeks after Nantucket District Attorney Michael O'Keefe filed a criminal complaint of indecent assault and battery against Spacey, identifying him in court documents by his legal name of Kevin S. Fowler.
The total hearing lasted less than 10 minutes, and a pre-trial hearing was set for March 4.
A judge denied Spacey's bid to avoid appearing in person Monday at Nantucket District Court.
Judge Thomas Barrett oversaw the proceedings, and Spacey was represented by Alan Jackson.
Does Ocasio-Cortez think Trump is a racist? ‘Yeah. No question.’
Ocasio-Cortez on Sunday accused GOP lawmakers of "hostage-taking" with their demands for border security in a new spending bill. Speaking on CBS's " 60 Minutes ", Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat, told Anderson Cooper that Trump "certainly didn't invent racism".
The Nantucket allegations were first raised in 2017 by former Boston television journalist Heather Unruh, who told reporters Spacey groped her teenage son.
If convicted of felony indecent assault and battery, the 59-year-old two-time Oscar victor could face as many as five years in prison. She said her son fled the restaurant when Spacey went to the bathroom. Spacey then unzipped the accuser's trousers and rubbed his penis, both in and out of his trousers, for about three minutes, he told police.
Spacey's alleged victim was working as a bus boy for the summer in Nantucket and had remained in the bar after his shift finished to see his hero.
Spacey said he had no memory of the event, but publicly apologised before issuing an "absolute" denial of all other allegations.
The civil attorney for the accuser said in a statement ahead of the hearing that his client is "leading by example" by coming forward.
Bolton sets out conditions for US Syria withdrawal
In Israel on Sunday, Bolton said USA troops will stay in the northeast Syria until Turkey agrees not go after the Kurdish forces. Jeffrey will travel from Turkey into Syria to reassure the Kurdish fighters that they are not being abandoned, Bolton said.
Spacey had asked the judge to excuse him from the arraignment.
The American star became embroiled in controversy in the wake of the #MeToo movement, after actor Anthony Rapp accused him of trying to seduce him in 1986 when Rapp was 14. The man said Spacey bought him several drinks and tried to convince him to come home with him before unzipping the man's trousers and groping him for about three minutes. The victim said he videotaped Spacey groping him.
But in a motion seeking to preserve cellphone and other evidence from the accuser and his then-girlfriend, defense attorneys called the allegations "unsubstantiated and after-the-fact".
On the same day that Spacey was charged with felony sexual assault, the actor released a video on his social media accounts, in which he seemed to be channeling his deceased House of Cards character, Frank Underwood, and lashed out at his accusers and their supporters.
The victim said that is when he left.
