Does Ocasio-Cortez think Trump is a racist? ‘Yeah. No question.’

08 January 2019

Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman elected to Congress, was sworn into the US House on Thursday. Quotable quote: "I think there's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right".

To pay for the deal, Ocasio-Cortez pointed to the progressive tax rate system in the 1960s and proposed the idea of tax rates as high as 70 percent on the super-rich.

"But it is very, very hard when people make accusations where you say, you know, the Democrats have done nothing, the establishment of the Democrats have done nothing", she said.

While Ocasio-Cortez didn't provide examples of Republicans claiming dancing is "scandalous", her new video has been viewed almost 20 million times.

More recently, Trump was slammed for promoting a GOP campaign ad critics likened to the infamous "Willie Horton" ads supporting George H.W. Bush in the 1988 presidential election.

NASA's New Horizons: 'Snowman' shape of distant Ultima Thule revealed
This New Year the spacecraft happened to be the icebreaker and gave the world a clear and vivid idea about the Ultima Thule . For Ultima Thule - which wasn't even known when New Horizons departed Earth in 2006 - the endeavor was more hard .

A video of her dancing outside her new House office became her most-retweeted post - more than 90,000 retweets - in about five hours, according to Twitter.

But despite the fact that her supporters had her back, Ocasio-Cortez made a decision to go the extra mile to prove that she didn't care what conservatives had to say about her.

She also said it was problematic which ambitious policies in American politics were pursued based on funding: "No one asks how we're gonna pay for this Space Force".

It's fair to say that most people, though, did not share that reaction to a young Ocasio-Cortez exuberant dance.

Ocasio-Cortez on Sunday accused GOP lawmakers of "hostage-taking" with their demands for border security in a new spending bill.

Man charged with murder in death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes
Of note, at the time of the 7.30am shooting, the killer was initially described as being a middle-aged white man by the family. The Harris County Sheriff's Office tweeted Saturday night that the investigation had " taken a new direction".

Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued an apology to Donald Trump Jr, the son of the U.S. president, over her own tweet posted on 7 December.

Speaking on CBS's "60 Minutes", Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat, told Anderson Cooper that Trump "certainly didn't invent racism".

Perhaps the most overblown example was published by Newsweek, which wrote that "Conservatives mock Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for college dancing video, everyone else thinks it's adorable", while not citing any "conservatives" beyond the original anonymous Twitter account.

Her plan focuses on marginal tax rates, a progressive tax system that's the basis of the US tax code. "She cited the $21 trillion figure and said '66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon.' That's a direct comparison".

"You look at our tax rates back in the 60s and when you have a progressive tax rate system, your tax rate, let's say, from zero to $75,000 may be 10 percent or 15 percent, et cetera", Ocasio-Cortez said. We can debate the merits of high marginal tax rates, but saying that a 70% top marginal tax rate is "radical" is another way of saying that you don't know anything about USA tax policy in the 20th century.

Incoming Sen. Romney criticizes President Trump's character in op-ed
Romney argued in the Washington Post on Tuesday that Trump hasn't risen to the mantle of the presidency. "I hope not", he wrote. Romney appeared on CNN later Wednesday and laid out the role he will play as a sometimes-Trump critic, if necessary.

She said the centrism of Democrats has damaged the lives of everyday Americans: "We as a party have compromised too much, and we've lost too much of who we're supposed to be and who we are".
