Senate Republican leadership announced that an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has found no evidence to support sexual assault allegations against the judge, and said that a vote will be held on Saturday.

The controversy over Kavanaugh's nomination comes ahead of November congressional elections in which Trump's Republican Party will battle to keep control of Congress.

The New York senator said he disagreed with the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen.

Top Democrats fired back at Grassley after getting their own briefing.

The White House "obviously limited" what the FBI could look at in its investigation, the Vermont senator said.

But Democrats said the five-day inquiry was "incomplete" because it was limited by the White House.

The servers had been compromised during manufacturing and the chips activated once they were up and running, it said. A follow-up investigation was then conducted, which reportedly remains open to this day.

The testimony revealed his "deep distress at the unfairness of how this allegation has been handled", Kavanaugh said.

Speaking in response on the Senate floor, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said a majority of Americans believe Ford's claims over Kavanaugh.

Earlier, White House spokesman Raj Shah rebuffed Democrats' complaints, saying, "What critics want is a never-ending fishing expedition into high school drinking".

It's now clear that omitting Ford and Kavanaugh from the list of people the FBI interviewed for its reopened background investigation of Kavanaugh means that the investigation can't reveal the truth.

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, said Ford's story hasn't been corroborated and people should be presumed innocent until proved guilty.

Three women have accused him of sexual misconduct in separate incidents in the 1980s.

"The harsh and unfair treatment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh is having an incredible upward impact on voters", he tweeted.

"Sometimes people are accused of something they didn't do", Graham said.

His column appeared aimed at winning over the three GOP senators who remain undecided. While some Democrats have described the probe as being insufficient to calm concerns about Kavanaugh's past, a few key Republicans have suggested they approve of the probe's thoroughness.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Ak.) called it "wholly inappropriate and in my view unacceptable", and Sen.

Hundreds of protesters against US President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee have been arrested in Washington as the pick inched closer to winning confirmation. I don't know. But I had one beer. Dianne Feinstein was approached by a woman who thanked her for her work on the investigation and told the senator she's a multiple rape survivor.

She testified that a drunken Mr Kavanaugh pinned her down, tried to remove her clothing and covered her mouth when she screamed.

If May doesn't have any new ideas on the Brexit hurdles, her next speech might well be preceded by "SOS". She painted an optimistic picture of post-Brexit Britain , saying "our future is full of promise".

And in this particular case, there's a strong feeling up here that Republicans or that Democrats simply decided this was going to be a search-and-destroy mission from day one. The agency has also spoken to a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, who has claimed Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a Yale party when both were freshmen.
