President Donald Trump accused Democrats on Tuesday of using a "con game" to scuttle Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination, forcefully dismissing allegations against the judge as Republicans began preparations for a pivotal hearing Thursday with Christine Blasey Ford, a woman accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has denied the accusations of both women.
The contrast between one accuser facing the fire while another declines will lead inevitably to the perception among many that Ramirez doesn't have supreme confidence in her own story.
Ramirez told The New Yorker that she was initially hesitant to speak out because she had been drinking at the time and there were gaps in her memory.
Ramirez is the second woman to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.
Trump also praised the judge, and accused Democrats of portraying Kavanaugh as someone he is not.

Some advocates say the handling of the complaints - especially lawmakers' unwillingness to authorize a deeper investigation into Kavanaugh's conduct - shows how far the movement still has to go in changing the way women are treated by powerful men.
Trump said Monday the accusations were among "the single most unfair, unjust thing to happen to a candidate for anything".
Kavanaugh, who along with Ford is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, denies the allegations. There are also questions as to how wide the reports of the potential new allegation were spread among Senate Democrats.
