Schumer To McConnell: Apologize To Kavanaugh Accuser

26 September 2018

President Donald Trump accused Democrats on Tuesday of using a "con game" to scuttle Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination, forcefully dismissing allegations against the judge as Republicans began preparations for a pivotal hearing Thursday with Christine Blasey Ford, a woman accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has denied the accusations of both women.

The contrast between one accuser facing the fire while another declines will lead inevitably to the perception among many that Ramirez doesn't have supreme confidence in her own story.

Ramirez told The New Yorker that she was initially hesitant to speak out because she had been drinking at the time and there were gaps in her memory.

Ramirez is the second woman to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

Trump also praised the judge, and accused Democrats of portraying Kavanaugh as someone he is not.

President Donald Trump arrives with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, right, and National Security Advisor John Bolton, left, at the United Nations on September 24, 2018. This hearing is to determine whether Kavanaugh is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. "She thinks maybe it could have been him, maybe not", Trump told reporters in NY.

Trump, speaking in NY where he was attending the United Nations annual assembly, threw his full weight behind Kavanaugh whose once straightforward progress to the nation's highest court has been hit by two bombshell accusations of sexual misconduct from his school and university days.

Despite the forceful rhetoric by Kavanaugh and his GOP supporters, it remained unclear how three moderate Republicans _ Sens. She said that although she is frightened, "my fear will not hold me back from testifying and you will be provided with answers to all of your questions". Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) was asked whether there was anything Ford could say that would persuade him to vote against Kavanaugh.

Ashley Kavanaugh was the personal secretary to President George W. Bush when Brett Kavanaugh worked in the White House.

Some advocates say the handling of the complaints - especially lawmakers' unwillingness to authorize a deeper investigation into Kavanaugh's conduct - shows how far the movement still has to go in changing the way women are treated by powerful men.

Trump said Monday the accusations were among "the single most unfair, unjust thing to happen to a candidate for anything".

Kavanaugh, who along with Ford is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, denies the allegations. There are also questions as to how wide the reports of the potential new allegation were spread among Senate Democrats.

Those two individuals were driving Richards out of town, but he asked them to drop him off near the camp so he could get his tent. Richards had lived in small towns throughout western Iowa, residing with his mother, father and grandparents at various times.

Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell say they are determined to get Kavanaugh on the court, calling the allegations against him false and politically motivated. "I think it's disgusting that they have exploited these individuals", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told Fox News on Tuesday.

According to The New Yorker, 53-year-old Ramirez alleges that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party when they were both students at Yale University in the 1980s. He said he wants to listen to her, but added: "What am I supposed to do?"

Shortly after, Ms Ramirez provided her account to theNew Yorker about the alleged incident from Mr Kavanaugh's college years - an account numerous Yale alumni have supported, including the judge's former roommate, James Roche, who told the outlet, "Is it believable that she was alone with a wolf group of guys who thought it was amusing to sexually torment a girl like Debbie?"

"The truth is I've never sexually assaulted anyone, in high school or otherwise", Kavanaugh said.

"The Democrats are playing a con game".
