Gordon hits near Alabama-Mississippi border

05 September 2018

Tropical Storm Gordon will move ashore late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, spreading rain and wind across the region.

The National Hurricane Center said Gordon should weaken rapidly after it moves inland from the central Gulf Coast, but that doesn't diminish concerns about flooding.

The storm's predicted track had shifted slightly east as of Monday evening, meaning Louisiana is now just outside the area under the hurricane warning.

Coastal areas from the Florida Panhandle to Louisiana could experience 4-8 inches of rain, with isolated totals of 12 inches through late Thursday that could cause unsafe flash flooding and "life-threatening" storm surge, according to the hurricane center.

Chevron and Shell said, as quoted by Reuters, that they are watching the progress of the storm and are preparing their refineries in the area for the landfall.
