That year saw almost 2.3 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC report shows nearly 2.3 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis were diagnosed in the U.S.in 2017.

Nearly half - 45 percent - of chlamydia diagnoses were among 15- to 24-year-old females.

"We are sliding backward", Jonathan Mermin, director of the agency's national STD center, said in a statement.

City deserved to win, but on the other side, it's a match they could have lost with some of the chances Wolves wasted. Harry Maguire scored in stoppage time to give Leicester a 2-1 win at Southampton.

"We expect gonorrhea will eventually wear down our last highly effective antibiotic, and additional treatment options are urgently needed", said Gail Bolan, director of CDC's Division of STD Prevention.

In the previous year, cases of primary and secondary syphilis grew more than 10%.

Concerns are also mounting that gonorrhea could soon become resistant to all current antibiotics, officials from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control said.

New CDC findings released today, however, show that emerging resistance to azithromycin is now on the rise in laboratory testing - with the portion of samples that showed emerging resistance to azithromycin increasing from 1 percent in 2013 to more than 4 percent in 2017.

And yet we all but ignore these critical health components when we talk about, plan for, and pay for health. Reported cases of three well-known STDs all increased between 2016 and 2017. "We haven't seen anything like this for two decades", she added.

If untreated, these diseases can affect a couple's ability to get pregnant, cause ectopic pregnancy and stillbirth, promote chronic pain in the pelvis or abdomen, and increase a person's risk of contracting or transmitting HIV, the CDC noted.

Public health experts are also concerned about antibiotic resistant gonorrhea. "That means state and local health departments are working with budgets that are effectively half what they were 15 years ago".
