Rains, landslides kill 24, displace thousands in India's Kerala state

With water levels rising in various dams and reaching nearly maximum capacity, shutters of at least 22 reservoirs in the state have been opened to drain out excess water. The rescue worker who saved the child is now being hailed by the social media users.

The water level in the reservoir stood at 2,401.60 ft against a full reservoir level of 2,403 ft.

All educational institutions including professional colleges in Kothamangalam, Kunnathunad, Aluva and Paravur taluks of Ernakulam district have declared a holiday for today. Officials said that over 54,000 people are now housed in around 500 relief camps across the state.
