According to The Post, the officials said the new information reveals that work is potentially taking place on one or two liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles in Sanumdong, a suburb of Pyongyang.

Monday's report, citing intelligence gathered by USA spy agencies and unidentified officials, also said there were signs that North Korea is continuing to construct at least one, and possibly two, liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching the United States.

US officials also are eager to resume searches in North Korea for more remains, an effort that has been stalled for more than a decade due to rising nuclear tensions.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last week said that North Korea was continuing to produce fuel for nuclear bombs.

In a joint declaration after the June 12 summit, the North Korean leader "reaffirmed his commitment" to work towards the "denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". That could then allow the North to demand the pullout of 28,500 US troops deployed in South Korea.

Trump declared soon afterward that North Korea no longer posed a nuclear threat. He declined to say whether Pyongyang is constructing new missiles.

Despite talks with the USA and a wide pledge to denuclearize, North Korea might still be making missiles.

"Fear not, Senator", Pompeo said, responding to a question on whether Kim had deceived the US.

"I don't have any announcement today but it's natural to get a lot of business done. but we are not there for any announcements", the official said.

The meeting also saw officials discussing matters involving relations between North and South Korea, as well as regional issues.

President Moon "will consider attending, with circumstances such as future schedule in mind", said South Korean presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom.

Since the Singapore summit, independent researchers and United States intelligence reports published by news organisations have suggested that North Korea is still expanding its weapons programme. North Korea has long argued its nukes are aimed at coping with USA military threats, saying it wants to sign a peace treaty with the United States to formally end the war.

Despite the concerns about the North's progress toward abandoning its nuclear weapons, ministers at the forum are expected to strike an upbeat note about the agreement between Trump and Kim.

North Korea got respect, trade, and weapons, and now they appear to be going on as if Singapore put no restrictions on them. The commander of US Forces Korea, General Vincent Brooks, said at the recent Aspen Security Forum that North Korea's "production capability is still intact". Recent photos suggested the North Koreans were in the process of dismantling a test engine stand at a satellite launching station, but various analysts warn the gesture is mostly symbolic since tests there were already complete.
