Fires Across California Force Evacuations, Claim Homes And At Least One Life

The Klamathon Fire has grown to 8,000 acres and has threatened and damaged or destroyed multiple structures by Friday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection.

Authorities say a new wind-driven fire erupted Friday night in the hills above Goleta in Santa Barbara County, burning 20 homes and threatening hundreds more.

As of 7:00 a.m. on Sunday July, 8, 2018 the Klamathon Fire burning in Northern California and Southern Oregon is 30,500 acres and 25 percent contained.

Fire officials do not know what caused the blaze, he said.

The fire is located about a mile northwest of Basalt and was started Tuesday by two people firing tracers at a firing range near Christine Lake.Three houses have been destroyed. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency because of the fire.
