There are now more than 20 fissures associated with Kilauea, and they've fountained lava that has poured across the Hawaiian landscape and destroyed 41 homes and dozens of other structures.

The Hawaii Volcano Observatory announced the development on Sunday morning.

About 2,200 acres has been covered in lava since the Kilauea volcano eruptions began May 3, Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno said.

The molten rock was expected to continue to flow across the Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) facility, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

But others said Trump's demonstrated willingness to walk away could yet extract further concessions from Pyongyang. After some fiery North Korean rhetoric, Mr Trump announced the summit would not be held.

Officials say there was no release of any unsafe hydrogen sulfide gas after lava crept over the plugged wells Sunday. The well was successfully plugged in anticipation of the lava flow, and a second well 100 feet away has also been secured, according to the report.

Around 2,000 residents of Leilani Estates and nearby Lanipuna Gardens remained under evacuation orders due to lava flows and high levels of toxic sulfur dioxide gas from volcanic vents.

The sole reported serious injury from the eruption so far came when a man was hit by flying lava.

Lava-filled fissures have torn apart chunks of the southeastern side of the Big Island over the past three weeks as Kilaeau has become more active.

Moon told reporters that Kim "again made clear his commitment to a complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". Some credited Trump's unorthodox brand of diplomacy with helping bring North Korea to the negotiating table.

On Friday afternoon, firefighters went door to door in Leilani Estates urging resident to leave as the lava advanced toward the neighborhood.

Magma is draining underground from a sinking lava lake at Kilauea's 4,091-foot (1,247-meter) summit before flowing around 25 miles (40 km) east and bursting from giant cracks, with two flows reaching the ocean just over three miles (5 km) distant.
