Memorial Day ceremonies, parades planned around region

Here are some of the Memorial Day events taking place in Hudson.

Parades are planned in Clare and Farwell with ceremonies there. Representatives of Assemblyman Jay Obernolte and County Supervisor James Ramos are expected at the event scheduled for 9 the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds, 14800 Seventh Victorville.

Brookfield: Annual Memorial Day procession forms at 9:30 the former Brookfield Middle School, Grove Street. Participating will be Theodore Hoffman VFW Post 1769 and Auxiliary, Effingham; American Legion Post 924 and Auxiliary, Teutopolis; American Legion Post 120 and Auxiliary, Effingham and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7 and Auxiliary, Effingham.

A brief parade from Pekin fire hall to Mount View Cemetery will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Advance registration for $10 can be made by calling (989) 539-6011.

A parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, starting at the community center. They will also install new officers at this ceremony, which is open to the public.

In keeping with its longstanding tradition of designating a local veteran as Honorary Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade, the Lockport Parade Committee has selected Evertt Fitchlee as this year's honoree. During the event, new recruits will also be sworn in. Cost to enter is $25 per month.

Clare's VFW Memorial Day parade and observance will be held Monday beginning at 10:10 the Clare City Park. Theodore J. Hoffman VFW Post 1769 will lay a wreath in remembrance of Theodore J. Hoffman. Tours will be available throughout the Memorial Day weekend between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. At 8:30 a.m. service will be held at the north bridge to honor our Navy veterans.

Jake Hurley to be Memorial Day Guest Speaker. The American Legion Honor Guard will fire a volley and taps will be played by a member of the HFCS Band.
