As criticism for Israel mounts, Guatemala opens its embassy in Jerusalem

The Palestinian Health Ministry said one man sustained moderate injuries from shrapnel, but did not confirm whether he was inside a targeted site or nearby. The campaign, billed as the "Great March of Return", may have raised unrealistic expectations among Gaza residents - a majority of them descendants of refugees uprooted during the Mideast war over Israel's creation - that they would soon return.

Thousands of Palestinians had gathered on the Gaza Strip's eastern border since Monday morning to take part in protests aimed at commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe) and to protest the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Omar Shakir, the local director for Human Rights Watch, said that if they were unarmed, the identity of the slain protesters and their affiliation to a militant group has little to do with Israel's right under global law to use lethal force at a demonstration.

On Monday, Vietnam dismissed claims that it participated in a gala hosted by Israel to celebrate the opening of a new USA embassy in Jerusalem.

"Israel, which is supported by the U.S., can go further in terms of its expansionist strategy in the region despite the fact that its actions have no legal justification", Atlioglu underscored, warning of possible new casualties among Palestinians in the near future.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov however rejected the Israeli spokesman's "blasphemous statement" implying the Gaza deaths were of militants.

A war of words broke out between the prime ministers of Turkey and Israel as United States shifted its embassy to East Jerusalem that led to massive protests.

"We are very disappointed at African countries which had celebrated the declaration of Jerusalem as the official capital city of Israel by the USA".
