Guardsman left to die on highway after apparent road rage fight

Police were dispatched at 7:30 the area of northbound M-291 Highway near the I-470 merger on a report of a man stumbling in traffic.

Harter, a loadmaster with the Missouri Air National Guard, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cody Harter, 24, was stabbed to death following a possible road-rage incident on a Missouri highway.

"Two cars are on the shoulder and [witnesses] saw two men outside those vehicles arguing in what appeared to be a disturbance or a fight", he said.

Law enforcement authorities are investigating a road rage incident involving a St. Joseph man.

Police believe the suspect fled north on 291 Highway after stabbing Harter.

Harter's father said the last thing his son said to them before he died was that he was coming home.
