Tiger Woods trails by six after putting woes at Quail Hollow

05 May 2018

It was his putter.

"My feels aren't used to greens at this pace", Woods said. "I tried to make sure I hit the putts harder and I kept pulling them".

"I've felt really good with the putter the last few weeks, from Bay Hill even through Augusta", He said. I've had ample time to make the adjustment, and I just haven't.

It showed all day in his inconsistent play on the greens.

Most players and caddies are in a hurry to get off property late in the afternoon when they have an early tee time the next day. His 2nd nine was even better as he finished with eagles on hole number 7 and 8.

Australia remains exempt from Trump administration steel tariffs
It added that the tariffs, which are meant to protect US industry, can not be justified by national security concerns. Everybody would lose out in a trade war, France's finance minister, Bruno Le Maire, told France 2 public TV station.

The setup was especially convenient for Tiger Woods after a first-round 71 that was defined by poor putting. He figured he would have shot two or three under par if he could have understood Quail Hollow's greens better. Despite sinking a birdie putt from 27 feet on the eighth, he three-putted on both the fourth and the 16th. He birdied 7 and 8 to make the turn at one under before giving it back at 10 when his drive missed carrying the bunker by a yard. He lost almost four (!) strokes to the field in Round 2 and missed putts from five, seven and nine feet for par.

Tiger Woods revealed he "really struggled" with his putting on the Wednesday practice round at this week's Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour.

Woods then settled for par when a birdie attempt from just inside 10 feet broke left of the cup on the 18th hole.

The most painful, perhaps, came on a par-4 14th hole when Woods lipped out a 6-footer for birdie.

On a day when two-times Wells Fargo victor Rory McIlroy started with a smooth three-under-par 68, Peterson made consecutive eagles for a sizzling 65 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte. Four-times major victor Rory McIlroy, who was among the late starters, bogeyed his first hole to drop to two-under on the week. In recent years this tournament hasn't seen the kind of names it wants capturing the title: Derek Ernst, J.B. Holmes, McIlroy, James Hahn and Brian Harman have been the winners since 2013. "We're all going to be close".

Jacob deGrom Leaves After Four Innings With Hyperextended Right Elbow
After leaving the field following the fourth inning, deGrom went down the tunnel to the clubhouse and reportedly looked upset. One big swing from Jacob deGrom , a few more from the Atlanta Braves , and suddenly Queens is rife with anxiety again.

Woods expects 15 players will have a chance of winning going into the final round, based on the parity of the group.

Woods came to Quail Hollow off a share of 32nd at the Masters, his first major since the 2015 PGA and the first time he had made a cut at a major since placing 17th at the 2015 Masters. But officials are keenly aware of the Tiger Effect.

So how did Woods' first round set him up for the rest of the weekend?

Woods lost 1.27 strokes on the greens Thursday, ranking 120th in the 156-man field in strokes gained: putting.
