Trump gives full pardon to lawyer who leaked Central Intelligence Agency agent's undercover identity

14 April 2018

Libby was chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and was convicted of perjury during a case involving the leak of a Central Intelligence Agency operative's identity.

Scooter Libby is being pardoned by President Trump.

Some fear Mr. Trump's pardoning of Libby could be seen through the lens of the ongoing special counsel investigation into Russian election meddling and any ties to the Trump campaign.

Libby was not accused of leaking the Central Intelligence Agency operative's identity, but he was convicted of lying to the grand jury, a move that some say he did to protect Cheney.

Although never having met Libby, Trump knows his story and apparently feels for the guy.

Bush spokesman Freddy Ford stated, " evenPresident Bush is very happy for Scooter and also his family members.

Kevin Durant To Opt Out, Redo Deal With Warriors
The Warriors and Durant agreed last summer to a two-year, $51-million deal with the player owning the opt-out option. The disappointment culminated in a 119-79 loss to the Utah Jazz in the Warriors' final game of the regular season.

The White House announced Friday afternoon that Trump had pardoned Libby, Cheney's former chief of staff who was convicted of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2007.

In a statement, Libby thanked Trump, saying his family has "suffered under the weight of a awful injustice". No one was ever charged for the leak.

Bush was cautious about pardons, an administration official told Time, and Libby failed to meet the president's own criteria.

Lewis Libby, Jr., also known as Scooter Libby.

Fact is, Mr. Libby did not leak Ms. Plame's identity - and everyone involved in the case, starting with hard-charging (and that's putting it kindly) special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, knew it before any trial or legal proceedings began.

Before former President George W. Bush left office, he declined to pardon Libby, despite commuting his prison sentence.

Iraq displaced Saudi Arabia for the first time on an annual basis in 2017, data compiled by Reuters showed. India outlined plans in February to expand its refining capacity by 77 per cent to 8.8 million bpd by 2030.

In August past year, Trump pardoned former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. However, President Bush did not pardon him, thereby leaving the convictions on his record.

Bush later revealed that Cheney was angry at his decision not to formally pardon Libby, with Cheney saying his chief of staff "deserved a presidential pardon".

In a statement explaining Trump's action, the White House noted that in 2015, one of the key witnesses against Libby had recanted her testimony, among other factors. Some speculate that this pardon is an attempt by the Trump administration to discredit Comey and his investigational direction. I think he has an audience of three, perhaps more.

Trump, who often rails against disclosures to the news media but was a longtime anonymous source himself, appears to have chosen to forgive Libby for his role in the disclosure of CIA Agent Valerie Plame's idenitfication.

Democrats reacted sharply to Trump's pardoning.

That's according to a person familiar with the president's decision who said the announcement could come as early as Friday.
