"The new USA president - who has big claims and many ups and downs in his words and actions - has been trying for 15 months to break the JCPOA ... but the structure of the JCPOA is so strong that it has not been shaken by such quakes", Rouhani said in a speech broadcast live on state television.

President Hassan Rouhani has declared that Iran's nuclear industry is advancing at a faster pace, as one of his senior cabinet officials warned the country could ramp its uranium enrichment to 20 percent on short notice, if the United States withdraws from the nuclear agreement.

Salehi added that "Iran can even show more extensive progress in other parts of its nuclear activities to go beyond the previous levels".

[The nuclear deal, aka the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA] merely hit the pause button temporarily on those aspects of Iran's nuclear program that it had already perfected - and, as [Salehi's] threats underscore, could be easily restarted-while leaving Tehran with the time and space to develop technologies that it hadn't perfected such as advanced centrifuges and missiles.

Some foreign-exchange traders attributed the slide to "opportunistic speculation" among dealers who sought to exploit existing worries about Iran's broader economic health, its continued inability to access overseas financing and the fragility of the nuclear deal.

It comes as the Trump administration continues to press European allies for additional restrictions on Iran's nuclear research, as well as its illicit ballistic missile programme, which was recently used to supply the terrorist Houthis with ballistic missiles fired at Saudi Arabia, according to the UN.

"We will produce any weapons necessary to defend our country in such a volatile region".
