Texas Rep. Farenthold resigns suddenly from Congress amid ethics investigation

Farenthold's decision was announced shortly before it became official, on the final day of the two-week congressional spring break.

The Republican from Texas originally announced he would not seek re-election after a 2017 report that he used $84,000 in taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit with a former staffer.

Farenthold, R-Texas, had beforehand introduced that he wouldn't search re-election within the 2018 midterm election, when reviews of sexual misconduct first surfaced. Visit for more information on this news.

Though, Farenthold had continued to deny such allegations but have taken the responsibility for the use of inappropriate language and his role in creating a hostile workplace.

Farenthold had vowed to pay back the taxpayers with his personal money, and also decided in late December that he would not be running for reelection.
