Countdown for Indian rocket launch on Thursday progressing smoothly

30 March 2018

The rocket will take off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 4.56 pm. "The success of this flight inspires the entire Isro team to focus on the next mission of PSLV-C41 launch on April 12, followed by GSLV-MK III launch in June", Dr Sivan told TOI soon after the launch.

ISRO's GSLV is a three stage launch vehicle system and is created to launch 2-ton class satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. The engine of the rocket to be launched Thursday was tested already and is ready for flight, hence the launch is called GSLV-F08.

The GSAT-6A will provide multi-beam coverage facility with five spot beams of the S-band along with one beam of the C-band. It is India's heaviest and biggest rocket, capable of putting 5,000 kg into low earth orbit (up to 2,000-km high) and 2,500 kg into geosynchronous transfer orbit (35,786 km). However, the flight incorporates some major improvements like the induction of High Trust Vikas Engine (HTVE) in the second stage will enhance its performance, induction of Electromechanical Actuation system instead of Electro Hydraulic Actuation system, which shall lead to improved reliability.

Wednesday is your week's best… cooler heading into the Easter weekend
Scattered showers will continue around western Montana this morning, then begin to move out by late morning and afternoon. That leads us to Wednesday and what a day this will be! Plan on mainly sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s.

In the coming days, the orbit of GSAT-6A will be raised from its present GTO to the final circular Geostationary Orbit (GSO) by firing the satellite's Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) in stages.

The GSLV is a three stage/engine rocket.

The satellite in conjunction with GSAT-6 will provide strong connectivity to remote places with deprived mobile networks. It carries the largest antennas spanning over 6 meters built by ISRO to provide signals to mobile communications.

The GSAT-6A satellite is expected to be put into orbit 17 minutes after being launched. "In next nine months, we are going to have 10 missions". Once the first stage exhausted, the second stage ignites with is propelled using liquid fuel.
