Southampton have sacked their manager

Southampton are now looking for their fifth manager since 2013.

The club announced via a press release tonight that Pellegrino, hired this past June on a three year deal as the successor to Claude Puel, is already out of a job.

Southampton have sacked manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

Pellegrino's assistant Carlos Compagnucci and assistant first team Coach Xavier Tamarit will also leave the club with immediate effect.

A club statement read: "Southampton Football Club can confirm that it has parted company with First Team Manager Mauricio Pellegrino".

"We would like to place on record our thanks to Mauricio, Carlos and Xavier for their efforts during their time with Southampton", it continued.

The board acted reluctantly in the hope that a disappointing season can still be salvaged and would like to secure a replacement in time for the FA Cup quarter-final against Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
