Drew Mahowald: The Vikings and their Chances of Landing Drew Brees

13 March 2018

The Vikings reached out to Brees' agent shortly after it became legal for teams to do so, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

That question has undoubtedly been muttered numerous times throughout the city of New Orleans, as we have entered the so-called "legal tampering period" of National Football League free agency, and Drew Brees, one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks, is still without a deal.

He's a Saints legend, after all. But it's also possible that some team will blow Brees away with an offer that dwarfs what the Saints are willing to pay. Brees is technically available, even if it's not likely that he signs with Minnesota.

Later this month Prince Mohammed, 32 will visit the United States, which also wants lucrative ties with the country. The deal will be welcomed at Warton, Lancashire, where the swing-role combat aircraft are built by BAE Systems.

Strief, who came to the Saints out of Northwestern University, played in only two games in 2017 due to knee injuries. If not, they will have a $6 million dead money charge this year, and the same in 2019 and 2020.

The Minnesota Vikings beat the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round on the "Minneapolis Miracle", Case Keenum's 61-yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs for the walk-off win. But the Vikings aren't the only ones reaching out. They were said to be going hard after free agent Kirk Cousins.

Strief thanked the organization for taking a chance on him, adding that he was humbled to play alongside quarterback Drew Brees. This may largely be a reason for the strong interest from Cousins and could potentially sway Brees to consider if the contract situation in New Orleans doesn't work out.

The Minnesota Vikings now don't have any quarterbacks on their roster.

The NFC South, in particular, has three legit championship contenders in the Saints (with Brees), Panthers, and obviously the Falcons. "Your faith in me has changed my life forever".
