A video of a woman being pulled away from her weeping daughters on a California street and shoved into a Customs and Border Protection vehicle has gone viral and sparked outrage for the way federal agents are enforcing immigration laws. Sotelo-Solis said Morales-Luna and her three daughters were walking to pay rent Saturday when a man dressed in civilian clothes approached, asked her name and then took her into custody.
Officials identified her as an alleged "organizer for a transnational criminal smuggling organization operating in East County, San Diego", the CBP statement read.
She is now in Border Patrol custody awaiting transfer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings, according to her attorney.
The daughters, meanwhile are staying with a family member.
Morales-Luna's lawyer has spoken out since the arrest.
Perla Morales-Luna, 36, came to the USA illegally at the age of 15, CBS News correspondent Jamie Yuccas reports.
Manchester United to let De Gea leave on one condition
Manchester United are in complete overdrive to retain the services of fan-favourite shot-stopper David De Gea. But United also have the option to extend that for an extra year to the summer of 2020.
Morales-Luna's lawyer, Andrés Moreno II, said that Morales-Luna had no history of criminal behavior, and is the single parent to three daughters who are United States citizens.
Rios, whose organization is working with the family, said Morales-Luna's daughters are in the custody of an uncle. They shoved her into a patrol auto.
He criticized the abrupt way in which Morales-Luna was detained, without any regard for the children, who were "suddenly left on their own without anyone to care for them". The video was posted on social media by Judith Castro, one of the daughter's teachers. Castro showed remorse for her student and her mother.
