"Would Like To See BJP Reaction": Chandrababu Naidu On Pulling Ministers

08 March 2018

Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, is likely to soon declare the separation of his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from the BJP-led national alliance NDA as the Centre has made it clear that the party's demand for special status to the state can not be met.

This came hours after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley suggested grant of special status to Andhra Pradesh, a key demand made by Mr Naidu, may not be possible.

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu directed TDP ministers Ashok Gajapathi Raju and YS Chowdary to resign as Union Ministers. TDP MLAs and MLCs on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to snap ties with the BJP-led NDA.

Naidu said Jaitley's announcement was the "last straw" for the TDP.

FDA OKs BRCA Consumer Test

To overcome this, it was proposed last month that a special goal vehicle be created in the state which deals with the development work. He later tweeted: "It is my belief that if the opposition stands united on this issue, we can force the BJP government to do justice to the people of Andhra".

With Eastern states too backward in revenue, we offered special status. Accordingly, among the benefits claimed by these states are funding of centrally sponsored schemes and Externally Aided Projects (EAP) under 90:10 (Centre: State) fund sharing basis, fiscal incentives, infrastructure support and other such concessions.

Naidu, who is an ally of BJP, both in Centre and State, has been hitting out at BJP for not fulfilling the promises.

"After the bifurcation bill was passed in 2016, Jaitley had categorically expressed before media that special assistance measures were earmarked for Andhra Pradesh".

The demand for a special status category was raised after erstwhile Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated. Later in the day, Congress president Rahul Gandhi participated in the protest demanding Special Category Status, organised by Andhra Pradesh unit of his party at Jantar Mantar. His remarks came after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Wednesday evening that there was no question of giving special status to Andhra Pradesh.

"Revenue deficit is for only ten months period. We have to look at the country as a whole", Mr Jaitley said.

He requested the BJP government to honour and implement all the provisions made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
