The Justice Department, in a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday, is challenging three California laws that, among other things, bar police from asking people about their citizenship status or participating in federal immigration enforcement activities. This announcement comes a week after ICE agents arrested more than 230 undocumented people throughout California.

"So here's my message to Mayor Schaaf: How dare you!"

Sessions is so full of political partisanship he is completely worthless as an Attorney General.

The U.S. Supreme Court struck down three portions of the Arizona law in 2012, including provisions that made it a crime for immigrants to fail to carry federal registration documents and to work or apply for work when in the country illegally.

The Justice Department claims that this forces California employers to be caught between state and federal law.

Brown called the lawsuit filed in federal court in Sacramento Tuesday "a political stunt" and accused the administration of President Donald Trump of "basically going to war against the state of California". Jerry Brown, told the Los Angeles Times that he plans to defend California's laws by arguing that the federal government can enforce immigration laws but can't force state agencies to help. Sessions had called that bill "unconscionable".

Sessions has blamed sanctuary city policies for crime and gang violence.

"Despite how (De León) has presented the issue, the law enforcement profession, which CPOA represents, can not and does not engage in immigration enforcement".

Re Justice Department sues California over "sanctuary" laws that aid those in US illegally (March 7): This is the tyranny that the Founding Fathers feared.

It will serve as some sort of ironic justice if Trump can get a judge to issue an injunction against these California laws and prevent them from being enforced until the case is resolved.
