Mukesh Ambani with $40bn, richest among 121 billionaires in India

The magazine highlights the more than 2,200 billionaires around the world who hold a combined net worth of $9.1 trillion.

"There are 259 newcomers including the first ever cryptocurrency billionaires; two Canadians whose toy company is behind Hatchimals and PAW Patrol; two Americans who founded online retailer Wayfair; and a 35-year-old heiress who runs In-N-Out Burger", Forbes added.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has topped Forbes magazine's annual rich list for the first time, overtaking Microsoft's Bill Gates.

Mr Bezos has seen his fortune swell over 12 months in which Amazon's share value has almost doubled.

Forbes adds while Trump's $3.1 billion fortune is "a far cry" from the $10 billion-plus he once claimed, it still makes him the richest president in US history.

Fortescue Metals Group chair Andrew Forrest was the next Australian mining identity to feature on the list in 480 spot with a $US4.4 billion fortune.

Facebook (FB) Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took fifth, with $71 billion.
