Many British homes left without water as snow thaw bursts pipes

A joint statement released by Thames Water, South East Water, Southern Water and Affinity Water says the rapid freeze and thaw cycle that hit London and the South East of England has meant "significant numbers of customers have been left without water or have low pressure".

Claire Sharp, customer director, said: "We're beginning to thaw out and as the temperature rises this causes bursts and leaks to appear on both our own water network and our customers' pipework".

However, some suppliers have kept warnings in place and are advising customers to use water sparingly, as some parts of the United Kingdom are still experiencing shortages.

Severn Trent Water are dealing with numerous leaks discovered as snow and ice receded today (Sunday 4th March).

"You can't flush the toilet, you can't get a bath, it's really quite uncomfortable".

Amazon Could Soon Offer Checking Accounts
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN ) is reportedly working on a checking account product for its customers. In addition, almost 50 percent would use a savings account if Amazon were to offer one to its clients.

An appeal has gone out from South East Water for people to help find leaks both inside their homes, on business premises and out in streets and fields.

"Water is an essential part of life".

Meanwhile, the RAF has been called in to deliver emergency supplies to parts of Cumbria that have been cut off by the extreme weather.

Bottled water was brought in for those who lost running water in their homes.

A statement said: "I am very sorry for the inconvenience and will let families know as soon I know more".
