Express Pool works much like UberPool in that it enables riders to share their journeys with others heading in the same general direction for cheaper fares. In the future, the app might inform a user of the estimated time to their destination but also gives them the option of walking a little bit to a more efficient pickup point for a quicker ride. Theyll then be dropped off in a spot within walking distance to where each are going.
The concept was originally piloted in San Francisco and Boston last November and based on favorable results, will extend to more cities including Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, San Diego and Denver. With Express Pool, which is launching in six new cities, you walk to meet the driver at a more convenient location.
The goal of specified pickup locations is to cut down on travel time and make Uber rides even more efficient than the company's current UberPool model, in which drivers often find themselves driving in circles to pick up additional passengers.
Express Pool eliminates route deviations and longer travel times associated with the standard Pool service. The fares are up to 50 percent cheaper than UberPool and 75 percent less expensive than UberX.
Highest-performing Porsche GT3 RS ever unveiled
Porsche is claiming a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds thanks to launch control and a fast-shifting seven-speed PDK gearbox. With all of these boxes ticked and equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes, the GT3 RS has a curb weight of just 3153 lbs.
From a public policy perspective, these types of ride-pooling services represent an enormous opportunity to provide more high quality, low-priced transportation to more people who don't have access to cars or public transit than ever before, said Daniel Sperling, director of the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California-Davis.
Another perk of Express Pool: the price.
Like the existing UberPool service, Express Pool groups multiple riders into one auto.
Express Pool officially launched in a handful of United States cities and was billed as an improvement on a auto pool offering Uber has provided since 2014.
Microsoft dropping support for Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0
Microsoft is ending support for mobile push notifications on its Windows Phone 7 and 8 software by February 20th. For those of you using newer Windows phones will not have to worry as it only affects the older phones.
Using feedback from those riders, Uber "built the next generation of shared rides from the ground up", Stock said.
"Express Pool, in combination with public transit, cycling, car-sharing and more, can help us get towards this shift, and I'm extremely excited about the potential impact this product can have on cities".
Even as the company has seen unprecedented growth by expanding to dozens of countries, Uber has been hurt by allegations of executive misconduct, a toxic work atmosphere, and potentially unethical competitive practices.
