Swype is reportedly bidding the consumer keyboard biz farewell

Nuance has confirmed that it has stopped the development of its Swype keyboard app.

XDA-Developers was able to verify the statement from Nuance.

Android and iOS users have been able to use third-party keyboards for a while now by simply downloading them straight from the Play Store or App Store respectively.

Users of the Swype keyboard will no longer be receiving any updates to the app. It's a wrap for the once popular keyboard app that was even incorporated in low-end Samsung devices like the Galaxy Young (remember it?) and the Galaxy mini (when it was updated to Android 2.3, Gingerbread).

Now, it appears Nuance - the speech technology company that bought Swype for more than $100 million in 2011 - is discontinuing the product.

While Swype continues to be listed on Google Play at the time of writing this article, when trying to access the iOS version on the US App Store there is a message saying that the app is now not available.
