John Mahoney, who played Frasier's Martin Crane, dies aged 77

The star of the hit television sit-com Frasier, John Mahoney, has died aged 77, according to his publicist.

John Mahoney, famously known as Martin Crane, appears on the set during the filming of the final episode of "Frasier" in Los Angeles. Tributes have begun rolling in across various social media platforms from fellow actors and film industry titans, remembering his great work in television, cinema and theatre.

He was encourage to pursue a career in acting after meeting John Malkovich in a Chicago acting class, who urged him to join the Steppenwolf theatre company.

The Steppenwolf canceled Monday's scheduled performance in honor of Mahoney.
