'TDP to fight for its demands, but won't leave NDA for now'

06 February 2018

Though the meeting was summoned to discuss the alleged "raw deal" meted out to Andhra Pradesh in the Union Budget, a speculation was rife that the TDP, the only ally of the saffron party in south India, may walk out of the NDA fold over the BJP's "treatment" to the party.

According to a party MP, TDP leaders were in favour of snapping ties with the BJP-led NDA, but Naidu overruled them.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Naidu and TDP MPs at Vijayawada on Sunday to deliberate their next course of action.

China Rejects US Revision of Nuclear Strategy
President Donald Trump said he ordered Mattis to conduct the Nuclear Posture Review within days of taking office past year . The Pentagon called for the United States to develop two new types of weapons in an update of its nuclear policy Friday.

If Naidu can galvanise the support of all these forces, he can bring pressure on Modi, since the BJP will have tough time in the next elections and the BJP definitely needs the support of allies, say analysts.

The TDP, which has been an ally of the BJP and a member of the NDA between 1998 and 2002, and again since 2013 to the present, is reportedly looking at a political alternative in the run-up to the 2019 general elections. "We will need to wait at least a month to assess if its so-called farm friendly measures are effective on the ground and whether it succeeds in putting a stop to farmer suicides in Maharashtra", he said.

The TDP leader added that Andhra Pradesh was expecting more than the Rs1,330 crore it received for Polavaram, and was hoping for a new railway zone for Visakhapatnam, among other things. However, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that the party would continue to maintain the alliance but would mount pressure on the centre to allocate the funds to the state. "All BJP allies are unhappy with the way BJP is treating them even though they are the ones who helped the BJP grow". He said nearly all of the TDP leaders had favoured snapping of ties with the BJP.

"We are unlike the Shiv Sena or some other party". The Shiv Sena leadership is deliberately planting such stories about Naidu calling Uddhav Thackeray.

As reports circulated that the Naidu government was supposed to be working with its rival YSR Congress whose leader JM Reddy recently talked about helping or supporting the BJP if the State of Andhra Pradesh should be given a special status.
