Bay Area Jolted By 4.4 Earthquake On Hayward Fault

USGS geophysicist Robert Sanders told The Washington Post that there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities.

The Hayward Fault is capable of producing a 7-magnitude fault, which would have caused significantly more damage.

Its last major natural disaster was a 6.8-magnitude quake, which occurred on October 21st, 1868, destroying downtown Hayward and killing five people, injuring 30.

"We know that it's ready [and] is capable of having another big quake at anytime", Tom Brocher, seismologist at the USGS, told Newsweek.
