Despite rumors heavily pointing toward Jon Gruden becoming the Oakland Raiders' next head coach, an National Football League spokesman said Friday that the organization hasn't violated the Rooney Rule.
The Raiders fired head coach Jack Del Rio on Sunday at the conclusion of the team's 6-10 season in which they missed the postseason and finished third in the AFC West.
It is still quite early in the process, but this will be a key factor in determining if Gruden's return to Oakland will be successful early on, and possibly long-term.
'Game of Thrones' Officially Confirmed to Return in 2019
" Game of Thrones " will conclude its momentous run with a six-episode wrap in 2019, HBO announced Thursday . The sources report that all our favorite main cast-members will be there for the final episode of the series.
Despite not coaching in almost a decade Gruden has routinely been a magnet for head coaching rumors. Greg Olson will be Oakland's offensive coordinator, Paul Guenther will be defensive coordinator and Rich Bisaccia will coach special teams, La Canfora reports.
The last time Gruden coached the Raiders was January 19, 2002 against the New England Patriots. Speculation grew when the Tennessee Volunteers began their search for a head coach, and Gruden's former team in Tampa Bay had reportedly looked into hiring the Super Bowl-winning coach before retaining Dirk Koetter.
Gruden beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl in his first season with the Buccaneers but didn't win another playoff game for Tampa Bay in his final six seasons.
