Packers GM Ted Thompson "transitioning into new role"

03 January 2018

It's a big change after one of the league's most successful teams missed the playoffs and finished with a losing record for the first time since 2008. The deal was never announced by the Packers, but it means McCarthy is now under contract through 2019.

After Schneider, a native of nearby De Pere, Wisconsin, signed an extension a year ago with the Seahawks that runs through 2021, he told reporters that his new deal with Seattle does not include an out clause that would allow him to leave for the Packers' front office (he didn't confirm nor deny a report that his previous contract with Seattle included such a clause). McCarthy hired Capers in 2009, while Thompson spent 13 years as the Packers general manager. Schneider is a Wisconsin native and has previously worked in the Packers organization on two other occasions.

However, Thompson's last few years drafting have not been great and he has not given Rodgers the help on either side of the ball that he needs to win more championships.

Mike McCarthy has secured another season Green Bay. Beginning with the son of Thompson's mentor, Ron Wolf. As is custom, the team will reportedly review several internal candidates.
