Putin praises Trump, blames 'spy mania' for meddling claims

18 December 2017

US President Donald Trump is now trying to get Vladimir Putin and Russian Federation onside to put an end to North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

Shortly after Trump made his remarks to reporters at the White House on December 15, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called on Russian Federation and China to do more to pressure North Korea, and charged that Moscow continues to employ North Korean workers in "slave-like conditions". If true, that would contradict Trump's assertion that China is "helping" with the situation. "China's helping, Russian Federation is not helping". No, they have another military exercise, and North Korea responded by launching another missile.

Echoing Trump's own language, Putin also claimed that there was a "deep state" hidden in the US government that sought to undermine US-Russian relations. The phone conversation came after a request from the US, the Kremlin said in an emailed statement.

On December 4, South Korea's and the US' air forces launched the biggest-ever joint drills Vigilant Ace 18 on the Korean Peninsula.

Russian Federation shares a border with North Korea and, like China, has an interest in seeing the Korean Peninsula remain divided and USA influence in the region contained. "People who do it are inflicting damage to the country's domestic political situation", Mr Putin said. But Russia is inextricably linked to any discussions regarding North Korea, so Trump also doesn't have much of a choice.

Tillerson's remarks before the United Nations council appeared to backtrack some on overtures he made to North Korea earlier this week to open peace talks.

Later, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called for a "sustained cessation of North Korea's threatening behaviour" before talks could occur between Washington and Pyongyang. "The pressure campaign must and will continue until denuclearization is achieved". In response, the North Korean foreign ministry condemned the drills saying that the United States' campaign on demonizing North Korea was a step towards warfare while North Korea was pursuing "a legitimate and fair goal through reinforcing its nuclear means of deterrence".

"If the North Koreans conduct an additional test of a nuclear bomb - their seventh - I would say 70 per cent".
