Tiger Woods finished strongly before Rickie Fowler broke the course record with the lowest round of his career to win the Hero World Challenge by four shots. Overnight leader Charley Hoffman led the field by five strokes at 14-under 202.
Woods shot a 76 in the final round a year ago, which left a bitter taste even after a showing in which he led the field in birdies.
Following rounds of 69 and 68 that saw him placed tied fifth at the halfway stage, Woods found it hard to handle the blustery conditions, carding a three over ar round of 75 for a total of four-under 212 and dropping to tied 10th.
Ohio State heads to Cotton Bowl vs USC
It might not be the College Football Playoffs but the Nittany Lions are still headed to a New Year's Six bowl game. Curtis Enis was the offensive player of the game, while Brandon Noble was the defensive player of the game.
Woods had earlier reached the turn in 31, including an eagle two at the seventh, as he shot a final round 68 to bounce back from Saturday's three-over-par 75.
Hoffman overcame a double bogey from a wild tee shot on No. 10 by closing with three birdies over his last five holes.
Woods and compatriot Matt Kuchar tied in ninth place behind Italy's Francesco Molinari.
Ali spoils Cotto's farewell battle with resolution win
But Ali really came on strong in the second half of the fight, after Cotto said he hurt his left biceps in the seventh round. Cotto, who won six titles in four different weight classes in his career, didn't make excuses for the outcome.
Fowler was in a class of his own in a scintillating exhibition, birdying the first seven holes and surging into a two-shot lead by going out in 28. He opened with a bogey and had three more in the first seven holes.
Many wondered how Woods would do in his first tournament in almost 10 months following spinal fusion surgery and the answer was a positive one, especially on the final day. For whatever reason, I find myself really enjoying this comeback. "I hit some really good shots out there (and am ready for) a bright future. and no pain".
"I've had some tough times through the years with my back and then finally to come out on the good side and (be) able to get back out there and play".
