ATP Finals: David Goffin stuns Roger Federer in semi-final

19 November 2017

David Goffin is through to face Roger Federer in the last four of the ATP Finals after defeating Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-1 on Friday.

Federer, the world number two, stormed into the semi-final after winning all his matches in the group stage, beating the likes of Marin Cilic, Alexander Zverev and Jack Sock. Goffin lost the opening set and it looked Federer will sail through the final but the Belgian had some different plans, raising his level and prevailing in sets 2 and 3 without losing his serve. 'I was feeling the ball really well and was a bit nervous starting the match.

"I think I let that get me down a lot through the year", Sock said.

The sixth seed stormed to a 6-0, 6-2 win against World No.7 Goffin in only 74 minutes, joining six-time victor Roger Federer as the only two singles players who secured semifinal places on Wednesday, reports Xinhua news agency. Federer should be on a high heading into the match as he demolished the Belgian 6-1, 6-2 in their semi-final meeting at Basel last month.

If you're a fan of the rest of the DC movies that have been released, there's probably no reason to think you won't like this one. Metacritic slapped a 46 percent rating on the movie , as of Friday, while other critics have written lengthy reviews of the film.

The Belgian opened the match well, acing Federer twice, but he threw away a game point allowing his opponent to swoop in and claim the first game easily. He played one very good match here, (and) one very bad match.

The Austrian continued to struggle in the second and Goffin took full advantage, breaking for a 2-1 lead.

'I'm so happy, it was a special moment I can not describe, ' he said after a first win in seven attempts versus the Swiss.

Yet Sock took the next four games, only to be pegged back to 4-4, before a double fault from Zverev offered up match point and a wide forehand saw the eighth seed through 6-4 1-6 6-1.

"If I'd have been broken in the last game then tough luck, I would have gone down the other side and played again". A shot up into the rafters from Alexander gave Sock set point, a composed slice forehand and he takes the first set 6-4.

In a familiar sequence, the second set started with an early break from Dimitrov allowing the 26-year-old Bulgarian a 3-0 lead.

But this momentary lack of momentum didn't deter Sock's fighting spirit heading into the third.

Asked how he had controlled his nerves when serving for the match, Dimitrov said: "You have to".
