Republican Senate Fundraising Arm Bails on Roy Moore

11 November 2017

In the wake of sexual misconduct allegations made against Senate candidate Roy Moore, one high profile Alabama politician is defending Moore.

Three other women, ages 16 to 18 at the time, also said they had been pursued by Moore when he was in his 30s, but that nothing went beyond kissing.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, President Trump's press secretary, said Trump believes a "mere allegation", especially one from many years ago, should not be allowed to destroy a person's life, but added: "The president also believes that if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside".

Several senior Republicans called on Moore to quit the race after The Washington Post reported allegations of sexual misconduct.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee typically does not waste money on safe races like Alabama, and has made zero independent expenditures on Moore's behalf, according to FEC records. Moore denied the allegations and evoked the term "spiritual warfare", which is well known in Southern Christian churches, black and white, to elicit as much sympathy from the faithful as possible.

Paul Getty III ( Charlie Plummer , no relation), and Getty's refusal to comply with the kidnappers' demands. He apologized on October 30 to actor Anthony Rapp, the first person to accuse Spacey of sexual assault.

The former GOP presidential nominee blasted the firebrand candidate in a tweet on Friday, breaking from the more cadenced rebukes of most Republicans. Ed Stetzer, who is the Billy Graham chair of church, mission and evangelism at Wheaton College, called the comparison to Mary and Joseph "simultaneously ridiculous and blasphemous". In the event of a win by Jones, the slim Republican Senate majority could get even slimmer.

Bennett says In such a scenario, even if Moore earned more votes than the Democrat, the state canvassing board would declare the Democrat the victor.

The special election December 12 pits Moore against Democrat Doug Jones. "They became the parents of Jesus".

Lee's office told The Hill on Friday that the Moore campaign never asked to use the senator's image and that their office had requested that Moore take it down.

The intensity of the reaction may partly reflect lingering bad feelings from the primary contest between odd and Moore, held in late September.

The American Society of Clinical Oncologists have released a statement urging drink lovers to watch their alcohol consumption. The connection between rising alcohol intake and cancer has been substantially confirmed.

Theologians and pastors, among others, expressed revulsion that Mary and Joseph would be used to counter allegations of sexual misbehavior with a minor. The results show the race in a dead heat, with voters split 46.4 per cent to 46 per cent in favor of Roy Moore.

In interviews since the publication of the story, state officials have said either that they would investigate the claims or raised questions about the timing of the revelations, suggesting the accusers were politically motivated.

Leigh Corfman told the Post she was 14 when Moore first approached her and took her to his home twice, the second time touching her over her bra and panties and having her touch him over his underwear.

Moore himself was suspended as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2016 after refusing to comply with the Supreme Court's gay marriage ruling.

"There's a very odd propensity of sexual allegations to suddenly become politically useful in the run-up to an election, or when someone stands up for the principles of the republic, like Clarence Thomas, and needs to be taken down", said Sebastian Gorka, a former White House adviser who became a Fox News contributor this week. Corfman never filed a police report or a civil suit, the Post said.
