Meek Mill gets 2-4 years in prison for violating probation

11 November 2017

Popular rapper Meek Mill sits behind bars in the Philadelphia suburbs after a judge sentenced him to two to four years for violating probation in a almost decade-old gun and drug case.

And New York City lawyer Joe Tacopina, who said he was one of Mill's attorneys, in interviews with news organizations accused Brinkley of having a vendetta against Mill.

The Philadelphia rapper has violated the terms on his probation in the past and has served time in prison, as well as house arrest.

Since the news broke the Hip-Hop world has shown its support for Meek Mill, with artists releasing messages on social media.

In his mugshot photo, Mill is in a yellow jumpsuit, which is worn by newly received inmates at Graterford and is different from the normal department of corrections jumpsuit, Department of Corrections spokeswoman Susan McNaughton told local Philadelphia news outlet WCAU. "It's an infatuation, it's some sort of obsession".

Tacopina's allegations referred to an in-chambers meeting during an earlier probation violation hearing, on February 5, 2016, that was requested by Mill and his then-attorney Frank DeSimone. "More than just a celebrity or rapper, Meek Mill has been a powerful voice in the community for our youth".

Since exploding onto the Hip-Hop scene back in 2011, Meek Mill has had a series of legal issues.

A spokesman for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania had no comment, citing the fact that the matter is "subject to future litigation". This year, he was arrested for reckless driving in NY and assault in St. Louis. She also cited him and his managers for repeatedly scheduling concerts after her August 17 order barring performances outside Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. At the time, he threw himself on the mercy of the court, telling Brinkley, "I'm human, I'm not flawless".

The sentence came as a surprise after prosecutors recommended Mill not be imprisoned for the probation violations, noting he's been off drugs since January and has complied with most requirements of probation.
