USA military investigating whether navy Seals killed Green Beret

30 October 2017

Military criminal authorities are investigating the death of an Army Green Beret as a possible crime, a Navy spokesman said Sunday. Staff Sgt. Logan J. Melgar's body was discovered June 4 in housing he shared with other Special Operations forces.

United States forces have been deployed to the country to help with counterterrorism.

No one has been charged in the murder, and the two Navy SEALs in question have been removed from Mali and placed on administrative leave, according to the Times.

Military officials told CNN that a military examiner ruled Melgar's death while on assignment in the African nation of Mali as a homicide.

The Army's Criminal Investigation Command examined the circumstances around the 34-year-old Melgar's death for months and then turned it over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The soldier's superiors in Stuttgart, Germany, nearly immediately suspected foul play, and dispatched an investigating officer to the scene within 24 hours, military officials said.

Rose McGowan Says Harvey Weinstein Offered Her $1 Million for Her Silence
The lawyer told her "y$3 ou're an actress, you've done a sex scene, you're done", according to McGowan. McGowan's lawyer, Paul Coggins, confirmed to The Times that the actress received the offer.

NCIS did not divulge details of the investigation or provide theories on why Melgar was killed. Further, their status has shifted throughout the probe from "witnesses" to "persons of interest" with the two now formally becoming suspects.

Melgar was a veteran of two deployments to Afghanistan.

When contacted separately Saturday, Melgar's widow, Michelle, and his brother, Shawn, declined to comment.
