The Brazilian missed the start of the campaign citing a back injury during Barcelona's prolonged pursuit.

All of the Catalan club's efforts were rejected by Liverpool which led to the former Inter playmaker submitting a transfer request at Anfield.

Barcelona chief executive, Oscar Grau, has warned Liverpool that they are ready to resume their chase to land Philippe Coutinho in January.

The region, home to 7.5 million people with their own language and cultural traditions, accounts for a fifth of Spain's economy. Puigdemont himself hinted at the declaration Sunday night to Catalan TV3, but he remained vague.

"We are prepared to sign Coutinho or other players but the proposal has to come from the technical staff. We want to have the team as competitive as possible ".

Jurgen Klopp does not want to sell the 25-year-old - and he has the full backing of the club's principal owner John W Henry.

It was a summer of speculation surrounding Coutinho's future.

Grau announced a predicted record revenue of €897m for this season, an increase of €189m on last season, partly thanks to Neymar's move to Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder missed Liverpool's opening matches of the new season due to a reported back injury, only to score for Brazil when he joined up with the Selecao for global duty.

Barcelona have turned up the heat on Liverpool and will bid £120million for Philippe Coutinho again in January.

But Coutinho has shown in recent weeks just why Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of him, scoring against Leicester City, Spartak Moscow and Newcastle United.
