Gary Player: Sad to see Old Course 'brought to her knees'

11 October 2017

The 36-year-old carded a final-round 61 to finish second, three shots behind defending champion Tyrrell Hatton after threatening to score a magical 59.

The world number 29 began the final day at the Old Course five ahead and shot a six-under 66 to win on 24 under. In an ultimately fruitless but courageous assault on Hatton's five-stroke lead at the start of play, Fisher finally broke the enormous log-jam of 62s that marked the record for the most famous golf course in the world.

The course was setup for the Dunhill Links' Pro-Am format without the treacherous pin positions and rough, and with its October date the fairways and greens are never going to be as firm and fast as July for the Open Championship.

A product of Randpark, Michael was introduced to the game at just three years old by his father and grandfather but played all the sports, and as a youngster achieved provincial colours for soccer and national colours for baseball.

Florida falls to LSU following missed extra point
Anything short of a victory could push the Tigers (3-2, 0-1) toward more drama and maybe even some hard decisions down the road. The LSU defense had five sacks, and sophomore linebacker Devin White had 13 tackles to lead a stellar effort.

Of the Irish, Paul Dunne finished on 13 under, 11 shots behind Hatton, after a closing round of 70 which was good enough for a tie of seventh place.

"They started taking all the stuff off the leaderboards so I didn't see a leaderboard until the 16th green and saw he was on 21 (under)", Hatton said.

"At the home of golf I wanted to try and give that putt on the last a try for 59 and it just came up a bit shy and then, unfortunately, I didn't hit a great [birdie] putt, so had to settle for a 61". A year ago was a new experience for me going out leading a tournament and I managed to do a really good job.

What a great round of golf from Fish, it's unbelievable. "Shame not to birdie the last, but I'm not complaining with 61".

Alicea said the aid will go to the poorest people on the island who are still living without the basic needs. The officers will deploy for two weeks before returning and being replaced by a next group of 10 officers.

France's Victor Dubuisson finished third on 17-under-par with a 63 on a day of very low scoring.

It was also a three shot lead for the winning team of Kieran Mcmanus & Jamie Donaldson, who shot 40-under-par through the 4 days of competition. "You can't just figure out your shot a minute before you play it while somebody else is hitting because it changes by the time that comes up", Steele said about the windy conditions.

Jack Nicklaus has spoken on the golf ball for years, with a strong opinion that today's version goes too far.

"I'm a much better player now than I was in 2010 and 2012 when I was able to win a couple of majors", he said.

Giants' Beckham to have season-ending ankle surgery
Along with King, they will add rookie Travis Rudolph and wide receiver Darius Powe to the practice squad, ESPN reported. They'll join Roger Lewis Jr., who came out of Sunday's game as the only healthy receiver on the 53-man roster.
