Two women accused of killing Kim Jong Un's estranged half brother arrived in Malaysia to begin their trial on Monday, eight months after he was poisoned in a crowded airport terminal in broad daylight.

Both women who face the death penalty if convicted told their lawyers they did not know they were participating in a deadly attack and believed they were carrying out a prank for a reality TV show, when they administered the nerve agent banned by the United Nations on Kim at Kuala Lumpur's global airport on February 13.

Testifying at the trial in Malaysia's High Court, the doctor who treated Jong-nam after his alleged poisoning has described his final moments.

She said blood tests on the two women accused of murdering Kim showed normal enzyme levels, but this may not conclusively show they were not exposed to VX because the women may have been in contact with a low concentration level or have decontaminated themselves by washing their hands with soap or taking an antidote.

He was the eldest son of Kim Jong-il, former leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
