South Korea confirms traces of radioactive gas from North Korea's nuclear test

The worldwide community has scaled up efforts to rein in North Korea, which has always been hell-bent on nuclear advancement, in light of its nuclear test earlier this month and its string of recent missile launches.

The device, which North Korea described as a hydrogen bomb capable of being placed on a ballistic missile, was the most powerful tested to date.

In its first official reaction to the sanctions resolution adopted by the U.N. Security Council on Monday, North Korea's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the sanctions would only strengthen the country's resolve to pursue its nuclear weapons program "at a faster pace without the slightest diversion".

The Korea Times reports that South Korea successfully conducted its first live-fire drill for an advanced air-launched cruise missile on September 12.
